Grist Vineyard is one of the oldest Syrah vineyards
in Dry Creek. Planted by the Hambrecht Family on the top of Bradford Mountain in 1974,
it has been organically farmed by Vineyard Manager Warren Burton since 2003. Grist forms
the backbone of our Syrah each vintage and is the perfect example of how a Fringe Vineyard
produces expressive, age-worthy Syrah.

From the Front Lines – Warren Burton,
Vineyard Manager
“Bradford Mountain is a really special place to grow Syrah. It performs
quite well up here. The main benefit we have by being on Bradford is that we’re
above the fog line. That decreases the humidity and also increases the number
of sunshine hours each season. We’re also really fortunate to have a steady
breeze each day, which helps cool the vines and moderates the summertime temperatures
to around 85-90 degrees. Syrah can be quite vigorous so the cooler temperature
and the volcanic Boomer Soil really helps control that.”
